Description: Summer meal programs present a unique opportunity to help ensure students continue to have access to healthy food when school is out while cultivating strong community partnerships. City and county agencies such as libraries, law enforcement, health departments--even public works--can be effective summer meal program partners. This session will identify a range of opportunities for collaboration with public agencies and highlight successes and challenges from across the state. Participants will learn practical strategies-and messages that resonate-to effectively engage locally elected officials to garner communitywide support for summer meals, energize year-round champions for school nutrition programs and support healthy students.
