California Healthier US Challenge Winners

The following are California schools who have qualified for the HealthierUS Challenge

Eighteen schools in California, part of Elk Grove Unified School District, were approved at the Bronze award level (Certification Period: July 2011 to July 2015). These schools include: Arlene Hein Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Arnold Adreani Elementary School (Sacramento, California), Carroll Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Cosumnes River Elementary School (Sloughhouse, California), C.W. Dillard Elementary School (Wilton, California), Edna Batey Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Elk Grove Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Elliot Ranch Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Feickert Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Florence Markofer Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Foulks Ranch Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Helen Carr Castello Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), James A. McKee Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), John Ehrhardt Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Joseph Sims Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Pleasant Grove Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Stone Lake Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), and Sunrise Elementary School (Rancho Cordova, California).

Eight schools in California, part of Elk Grove Unified School District, were approved at the Silver award level (Certification Period: July 2011 to July 2015). These schools include: Arthur C. Butler Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Elitha Donner Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Irene B. West Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Isabelle Jackson Elementary School (Sacramento, California), Maeola R. Beitzel Elementary School (Sacramento, California), Raymond Case Elementary School (Elk Grove, California), Robert J. Fite Elementary School (Sacramento, California), and Roy Herburger Elementary School (Elk Grove, California).

Thirteen schools in Sacramento, California, part of Elk Grove Unified School District, were approved at the Gold award level (Certification Period: July 2011 to July 2015). These schools include: Anna Kirchgater Elementary School, Barbara Comstock Morse Elementary School, Charles E. Mack Elementary School, David Reese Elementary School, Florin Elementary School, Franklin Elementary School, Herman Leimbach Elementary School, John Reith Elementary School, Mary Tsukamoto Elementary School, Prairie Elementary School, Samuel Kennedy Elementary School, Sierra Enterprise Elementary School, and Union House Elementary School.

Hort Elementary School (Bakersfield, California), part of Bakersfield City School District, was approved at the Gold Award of Distinction level (Certification Period: July 2011 to July 2015).

The U.S. Department of Agriculture commends these schools for the exemplary steps, leadership and team work employed to make changes to their schools' nutrition environment; improve the quality of the foods served; provide students with more nutritious, healthy choices; and, enhance their physical activity program. To acknowledge their achievement, the schools will receive a HUSSC award plaque, a banner to display, and a small monetary incentive award ($500 per school for the Bronze award, $1000 per school for the Silver award, $1500 per school for the Gold award, and $2000 per school for the Gold Award of Distinction) for meeting HUSSC's 2009 updated criteria. Also, the names of these schools will be proudly added to the HUSSC awardees list on the Team Nutrition HUSSC website.
